April 28 Daily Discovery - Read 1 Timothy Chapter 2

This passage below is from the King James Version (ekjv.org).

Remarks from the Berean Fellowship follow the passage below.

[1] I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
[2] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
[3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
[4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
[5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
[6] Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
[7] Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
[8] I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
[9] In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
[10] But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
[11] Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
[12] But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
[13] For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
[14] And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
[15] Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Christ, a Ransom for All Men

When the Son of God went to the cross, in His body He bore the sins of all men for all time. The Creator and the Redeemer would have every man to be saved. Everyone that you know and everyone that I know that does not confess to follow Jesus Christ should be prayed for,- that they might come to that place. Every individual in every place of authority that is over us is someone that Jesus Christ died for and He wants them to be saved. We may not even know their names but we know who they are, we may never meet them and it doesn't matter. W e should be praying for them. The number one thing that we should pray for for any person is that they would come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and their personal Savior.

The Primacy of Prayer

Paul told Timothy that prayer should be at the very top of his list of things that he should do. When the apostles were experiencing the rapid growth in the church and they ordained some assistants, as recorded in Acts chapter 6, they stated that they would give themselves to prayer and the ministry of the word. Prayer was primary then.

Acts 6:1-4

[1] And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
[2] Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
[3] Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
[4] But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

We Can Pray Anytime, Anywhere

We all have varied and routine responsibilities that we must care for. We have family and friends and employers and employees and neighbors and dwellings and properties which all require some time and oftentimes physical energies.

As committed followers of Jesus, we should regularly be reading the Word of God and meditating upon it, but that is not something that we can always do. Even if we did not have the Bible we could still pray. We can pray anywhere and we can pray anytime. We can pray while we're working or while we're resting. Having a place of quiet, private prayer is wonderful, and we should all seek to have that place. But we don't have to have it in order for us to pray. Communing with God through prayer is primary.

If we were to get a letter from Jesus or an apostle today or a personal word the likelihood that we would be told that we really need to seek the Father's face in prayer most importantly is highly likely.

1 Thess. 5:17

Pray without ceasing.
