October 29 Daily Discovery - Read Esther Chapter 6

[1] On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
[2] And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
[3] And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
[4] And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
[5] And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
[6] So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
[7] And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
[8] Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
[9] And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
[10] Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou has spoken.
[11] Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour.
[12] And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
[13] And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
[14] And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.
The Results of Pride
Prov. 16:16-18
[16] How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
[17] The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
[18] Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
[19] Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Pride is the very root of sin. Sin actually began in heaven, when one of the Spirit Beings that God had created became self-inflated because of his wisdom and beauty. This was followed by him having a diminished view of the Most High God and thinking that he could exalt himself to be above the Most High.
Because of pride, he saw himself bigger and better (more) than he actually was and saw God less than He was, which ultimately resulted in a devastating fall. We see this pattern duplicated throughout the Scriptures. Anytime pride enters the equation, it has the same results: inflating yourself, diminishing others, and ultimately falling. This is what happened to Haman as recorded in the book of Esther.
Results in our Diminishing Others
Rom. 14:7-13
[7] For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
[8] For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
[9] For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
[10] But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
[11] For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
[12] So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
[13] Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
We are instructed to be doers of God's law but nowhere are we instructed to become judges of God's law. God, the Most High, the Holy One is The Judge. When we act as a judge we are in essence trying to do the same thing that the enemy did they got him cast out of heaven, We are trying to take God's place. Let us set our gaze upon God and our hearts upon honoring Him and not fall to the deception of pride that causes us to want to diminish others and inflate ourselves. This will end in our fall if we do.
Results in our Inflating Ourselves
Rom. 12:1-3
[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
[3] For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
1 Cor. 4:7
[5] Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
[6] And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
[7] For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
There is no such thing as a self-made man. Every good thing and every honorable thing about us is a result of the gracious gifts of god. God has given us tools that we can work with and god has given us the intelligence to understand how to use the tools he has given us the energy to do the actual work and therefore the result of anything that we do should be bringing glory back to the god that has created us. We should never become self-inflated, but always be praising and worshiping god for his good gifts to us.
Pride causes us to take our eyes off of our Creator and then place them upon ourselves, thus magnifying ourselves; and then we end up comparing ourselves to others and will diminish them. This is the peril of pride.
2 Cor. 10:12
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
Results in our Eventual Fall
In the previous chapter of Esther, we see that Haman had a gallows created that he had designed upon which to hang Mordecai. In the next chapter we see that Haman actually hung himself because of his pride.

[8] When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
[9] And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
[10] But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
[11] For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
