A Life of Appropriate Circumspection

Don't forget that we all have a Master Who is in heaven. For us to be living a life of appropriate circumspection, the first direction that we must look to is upward. God is watchhing how we treat other people. God became a man in Jesus Christ and lived the way man was intended to live. He is our perfect example.

Eph. 5:9-16

[9] (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
[10] Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
[11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
[12] For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
[13] But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
[14] Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
[15] See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
[16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Treat your Servants Fairly

The master - servant relationship that was commonplace during Biblical times is commonplace no longer, at least in that specific sense. However, anyone that you would hire to do something for you at your home would in that case be a servant. They should do what they have been hired to do and you should pay them what you agreed to pay them! If you are an employer and you have employees this relates to you in the same way. As an employee you work for them and you need to do your job as best as you can and as an employer, since they work for you -- you need to pay them fairly and honestly like you agreed to do.

Pray for Spiritual Leaders

We are to be always looking above as well as glancing around. Our spiritual condition is certainly affected by our spiritual leaders. Good spiritual leaders are hard-working Servants of God and they are subject to the attacks of the enemy. They need our prayers. We need to pray for their protection and for the success of their spiritual efforts, continually. We should always keep in mind the good gifts of God that we have already received and maintain a heart of thankfulness. This thankfulness in our hearts will result in praises upon our lips which is always appropriate.

Walk in Wisdom in this World

We are sojourners on this earth. We must also maintain a mindfulness of the view that those that are outside of the kingdom of God have of us, and thus walking wisdom. We are children of light and we should be walking in the light.

Always Show Grace in your Speech

Mark 9:50

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Salt is good. The Master said so. Even our water needs a little bit of salt and our food when seasoned with just a little bit of salt tastes so much better! The appropriate use of salt is satisfying and improves things. keep in mind that the type of reduced salt that we use today was not being circulated during Biblical times what was being used was natural sea salt which had many many beneficial minerals in addition to sodium.

How important it is for us to make sure we keep this in mind regarding our circumspection! We need to have a little bit of salt on our tongues and lips! What comes out the bucket of the mouth proceeds from the well of the heart. One good way to season our speech is to put our brains between our lips and our voices. Maybe we should put the bucket back down into our hearts again and bring up something that is more satisfying for the hearers? And sprinkle just a little bit of heavenly salt upon it!

[2] Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

[4] That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
[5] Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
[6] Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
[7] All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:
[8] Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
[9] With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.
[10] Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)
[11] And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
[12] Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
[13] For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
[14] Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
[15] Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.
[16] And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
[17] And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
[18] The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.
