March 26 Daily Discovery - Read Proverbs Chapter 2
This passage below is from the King James Version (ekjv.org).
Remarks from the Berean Fellowship follow the passage below.
[1] My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
[2] So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
[3] Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
[4] If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
[5] Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
[6] For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
[7] He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
[8] He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
[9] Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
[10] When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
[11] Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
[12] To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
[13] Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
[14] Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
[15] Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
[16] To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
[17] Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
[18] For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
[19] None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
[20] That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
[21] For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
[22] But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
The Source and Provider of Wisdom
A reading of the book of Proverbs would reveal three types of persons: the simple, the wise, and the fool.
One could add one additional category and call them the scorners. The scorners are fools on steroids or fools2.
God invites us to seek wisdom from Him and promises to give it when we seek Him for it. We do this through carefully reading the Scriptures and through approaching God in prayer for specific wisdom and guidance.
Jas. 1:1-8
[1] James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
[2] My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
[3] Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
[4] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
[5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
[6] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
[7] For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
[8] A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Reading the book of Proverbs you will see that to become wise is the only place that is safe and that will be blessed. It behooves us to work at becoming truly wise people.
The Simple
A simple person is someone that is unaware or ignorant of God's truth.
Prov. 1:32
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
The Wise
A wise person is someone that searches to know and apply God's truth to their lives.
Prov. 1:5
A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
The Fool
A foolish person is someone that despises or rejects god's truth.
Prov. 14:9
Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
The Scorner
A scornful person is a fool that works at getting people to emulate him in his foolishness.
Prov. 21:24
Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
