March 6 Daily Discovery - Read Revelation Chapter 1

This passage below is from the King James Version (ekjv.org).

Remarks from the Berean Fellowship follow the passage below.

[1] The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
[2] Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
[3] Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
[4] John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
[5] And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
[6] And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
[7] Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
[8] I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
[9] I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
[10] I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
[11] Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
[12] And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
[13] And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
[14] His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
[15] And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
[16] And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
[17] And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
[18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
[19] Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
[20] The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Things that Must Shortly Come to Pass

The apostle John is starting right at the top telling his readers that the things that I'm revealing in this book are about to happen. They will shortly come to pass. They are so close that they will soon be in the past. If you accept the date that we are giving for the year in which we live, which is over 2, 000 years beyond the resurrection of Jesus Christ, then you should accept that much of Revelation's story is now in the  past.

Jesus told John to write: 1)the things that he saw,  (2) the things that are now, and (3)the things that are coming afterwards.

The things that he saw are the visions that he received from Jesus and they are recorded throughout the book. The things that are was the messages to the seven churches. They are recorded in the second and third chapters. The things which will be here after are recorded in the rest of the book beginning with the fourth chapter.

When God gave Daniel His apocalyptic revelation, He told him to seal up the book because the fulfillment was far away. It ended up being about 483 years for it to all be fulfilled.

On the other hand, John says "this is happening soon". Isn't it odd that Daniel was told to seal up the prophecy for a period of just less than 500 years, but John was not told that for a period that would last four times as long?

Dan. 12:1-4

[1] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
[2] And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
[3] And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
[4] But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Rev. 22:10

And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

Is Jesus Coming Again Soon?

During the apostolic era, that is during the time of the writings of the New Testament that we have, believers were continually encouraged tobe watching for the imminent return of Christ. Imminent meaning he could come at any time, so be ready!

They were told they could not know the day or the hour but they could know the time and the seasons. Jesus promised to return within a generation, so it would be sometime before their generation had ended. That is a long time ago now.

What now?

The most important part about your story and god's story in time is the present.

When are we now?

I believe that the time in which we are living is described in Revelation the 20th chapter.

Rev. 20:1-3

[1] And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
[2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
[3] And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
